About Kosi River
Kosi is a perennial river that originates from Dharpani Dhar, perched at 2,500 meters in Baramandal region of Almora district. This pristine river graciously flows through the verdant valleys and towns of Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, thereafter entering the Tarai regions of Uttar Pradesh, where it joins Ramganga River.
This Himalayan River is famous by the name of ‘Kosila’ among the local populace. Having a length of 168 meters, Kosi River replenishes the farmlands of Kumaon and is a source of water for the wildlife thriving in the Corbett National Park.
The eastern periphery of Corbett National Park is entirely fed by the Kosi River that flows from Mohaan till Ramnagar via Dhikuli. While the river does not enter the park, the wild animals use the river water for quenching their thirst, especially during pinch periods. The Kosi river bed is filled with boulders and its flow is erratic and often changes course. The river is unpredictable and notorious by nature. It often brings torrents and causes destruction during monsoon season. Some of the nearby places to Kosi River are Bujan, Betal Ghat, Corbett National Park, Garjiya Devi temple, Amdana, Ramnagar etc.
